If you've driven down Cumberland Avenue in Middlesboro over the last week or so, you may have noticed a couple of new banners on the sides of some of the downtown buildings. Three historic photographs representing Middlesboro's rich history are on display downtown. Each one depicts something different: one is of an old Kroger cart in Middlesboro, one is of Middlesboro's founder Alexander Arthur and another is of his wife, Nellie Arthur.
Each photo was picked for its representation of historic Middlesboro. The photos are a result of a Paint the Town 2008 grant that was awarded to Bell County Tourism. President of Bell County Tourism, Judy Barton applied for the grant, which came from TourSEKY. Many thanks go to TourSEKY and Congressman Hal Rogers for supporting the project.
Now is a great time to take a walk or drive down Cumberland Avenue to see the new banners!
